Last week saw Glasgow City Innovation District, Scotland’s first innovation district, celebrate its 1st birthday!
Glasgow City Innovation District is a global hub for entrepreneurship, innovation and collaboration, centred on Glasgow’s thriving Merchant City and anchored by the University. To date the District has received over £100 million in investment and is home to innovative companies and organisations, who locate here to nurture and accelerate inclusive growth, improve productivity and develop world-class talent, research and technology within a vibrant ‘live, work, play, innovate’ environment. The district is the result of a successful collaboration between Glasgow City Council, the University of Strathclyde, Scottish Enterprise, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurial Scotland.
Over the last year the innovation district has welcomed a number of new businesses and centres including the Scotland 5G Centre in the Technology and Innovation Centre, med-tech firm EnMovi to Inovo and Channel 4 who are located in The Garment Factory. The district has also seen the launch of M Squared’s Quantum Centre in Inovo, a thriving space sector at Tontine and the launch of the new advanced measurement centre, a collaboration between LGC and the University.
As we look forward to the coming year, Glasgow City Innovation District will undergo further development of the area around the Technology and Innovation Centre, implement a year round events programme and welcome new ideas and businesses to the area. We would love to hear from you about any updates or collaborations you are involved with that we can tell the wider community about. Please email email@example.com.
