I am a Business Support Officer providing specialist guidance and tailored support to our clients; I have been in my current role for three years and in similar roles for the last seven years. I provide support by co-ordinating and supporting the administrative and managerial process through a high quality service delivered accurately and timely to the internal and external service users. In addition, I promote entrepreneurial activity to a variety of groups in Glasgow by encouraging and promoting self-employment and business start-up opportunities. I work hand-in-hand with stakeholders and enterprise partners to promote the notion that self-employment, where viable and realistic, is feasible and achievable.
About the business:
I was contacted by a local business that was looking for additional support in developing a new aspect to their business. They had secured funding and by referring them to colleagues within the Council they were able to access further funding.
I met with the business owner, who outlined the project, the aims and objectives and how it would add to the revenue stream for the company. I signposted them to a stakeholder organisation within the enterprise network in Glasgow as well as introducing them to business adviser colleagues for on-going business development support
Lessons: Have an open mind to alternatives. Any solution will be unique to particular issues and in going along that journey the impacts and outcomes of any action will dictate how things will evolve.
